After a traumatic incident during residency, young medical student James Heyman (Namir Smallwood) is transferred to a rural hospital to start over. Noticing that James is struggling and having difficulty communicating with patients, Dr. Harrison (veteran theater and film actor Michael Potts) suggests he enroll in a course on bedside manner and building deeper relationships with patients. The demons of James’ past begin to catch up with him when he finds himself consumed by the case of a young asthma patient (Sidney Flannigan, NEVER RARELY SOMETIMES ALWAYS) with mysterious symptoms. His connection to reality begins to weaken as his disturbing nightmares, anxiety-fueled assumptions, and physical trauma collide with the harsh reality of the medical world. Director Alex Thompson assembles a strong ensemble of seasoned character actors in his follow-up to SAINT FRANCES—and predecessor GHOSTLIGHT—in this humanistic and unconventional vision of the genre.
